Stability, Balance, and Order are Necessary for a Society to Prosper

Stability

One of the most tragic events in human history can be relayed back to the fall of great nations, empires, and kingdoms based on the consequences of the simple actions and mistakes of those who believed that duty came secondary to their personal whims. In the past few thousands of years, many examples of this can be brought to mind, but for the sake of simplicity let us look at the 20th century during the first world war.

Paintings by Thomas Cole, called “The Course of Empire”. This first painting is called, “The Consummation of Empire”.

Any history buff can remember those monarchies which had fallen after their subsequent defeat and from the horrifically drawn-out state of the war; Imperial Russia, Germany, and Austria-Hungary. In Russia, Emperor Nicholas II was indecisive, weak and unprepared for the position that was befallen upon him. Being easily flexible by his advisers and by his wife, Alexandra, Nicholas was unable to make up his own mind even if he had the right intentions.

Instead, he looked to his family first above the state, his crown, his duty to Russia. Whenever the people looked towards their “little father” for guidance, support, and leadership, they would be met with resistance and to be shut out as peasants and low-class urban workers.

In Germany, the Kaiser looked to the war as an opportunity to come out as the leader truly destined to be the worthy heir to one of the most powerful countries in Europe, disregarding his past mistakes in Africa and Berlin which hampered the Empire’s diplomatic stance with the other European countries.

Austria-Hungary only wanted to view the declaration of war against Serbia as a pseudo-revenge scheme for the murder of the Archduke, disregarding the effects that such drastic action could mean for the country.

All three countries disregarded the true goal for every monarchy, that the crown must always come out on top. After the war, with the Hohenzollerns, the Habsburgs, and the Romanovs being driven out of their home countries, extremists and radical parties overtook the reins of power and implemented their sick and twisted ideologies.

Through the maintenance of monarchical power and the general shift towards classical liberal ideals, peace and prosperity are able to be maintained.

However, drastic actions driven by personal desires only captures the eye of public attention towards an attitude of disgust towards the monarchy. Thus, the Sovereign and their Royal Families must maintain a high standard of understanding what it means to allow the crown to survive.

Thorough cooperation between the Prince and his people are a minimum to see that the social contract is honored and maintained. When violated, the people turn towards violence and terror to restore a government that is fit in their view, to secure their peace and freedoms.

Three entities provide for a stable coexistence to be, namely such as a head figure, a group of influential persons to maintain such an order, and the people to be able to consent to such a government. This balance provides for peace and eventual stability.

The concept of absolutism is extremely misleading to not only to the people but especially to the presumptive heir to the throne. “Power” is a delicate matter which was hard-fought and maintained by their forefathers and should be thought of as continuing this struggle.

The disillusionment of this absolutism to monarchs has done considerable damage to their royal families, dynasties, and to the state as a whole, weakening and destroying everything that their ancestors strived for. This is why duty must remain paramount, and that family, daily pleasures, and personal extravagance must be put aside for the preservation of the crown. The crown must always win.

Balance

The subset of any feasible and tangible thing to be thought of, moved by, or to be created or destroyed all seek to the goal of finding a balance on which they stand. Otherwise, there must be eventual collapse and an overhaul of the entity’s whole value and stature.

“Destruction”

This is a universal concept throughout the world and into the cosmos, such as simple atoms and compounds seeking a balanced and non-chaotic form through the joining and destruction of bonds, or an emperor wishing to seek out a fellow monarch via talks to reform and agree on matters to keep the balance of power between themselves.

The same goes for a monarch who wishes to maintain the status quo as much as humanly possible or to reform in order to fit the whims of their subjects. However, a third entity must be considered when entering the subject of any “balance of power” in political systems; the aristocracy, or a group of highly influential individuals with connections to the head of state that benefits both parties.

The people look towards the head for guidance while may or may not know the other third pie of the power game, that is, without major support via two pieces of the pie dominating the third, regime change can never be a feasible reality.

But, this is a highly frequent act which takes place in those nation-states with little to no recognition of the laws of the land and thereby refuses to believe that honor is existent in their government simply because the rules do not matter.

Through this simple ignorance, corrupted forms of the said branches of power in government start to take place, such as a tyrant under an unrestrained monarch, an oligarchical ruling elite, or a realm where order is nonexistent and anarchy rules the land.

Each two of these corrupted forms will inevitably coerce and melt into an oligarchy, with the other two corrupted forms having masked its true intentions via a “despot” or being in “anarchy”. When looking to our past, it’s important to note a state which had arguably the most influential hand on the world to which we now live today, which was Rome.

Their success lies with their pragmatic attitude towards very specific problems and ditched whatever wasn’t working with an unsentimental attitude.

Their ability to adapt and change allowed Rome to flourish for over a thousand years and still lives on through our various languages, food, customs, government, religion, and our understanding of culture. There will always be change, and there’s nothing to stop that.

However, that leaves a very specific problem to which us, humans, can look forward to solving and to prove to our ancestors that we are worthy of the struggles to which they bore for over hundreds of thousands of years.

It does take courage, and for Rome, constant change meant that failure was an option. Each time defeat came to their doorsteps, their way of life was rapidly changed in order to meet the problems which they faced; it was a cultural trait that’s hard to teach, but it was probably Rome’s greatest strength.

As we look towards all reaches of life, it’s imperative to seek out what powers exist to maintain the status quo, the general order, then seek out to balance these entities via their interests and threats, powers and weaknesses, and their futures and pasts. No one is absent or immune from these traits, again, it is universal.

However, it is important to understand the intentions of every fellow being, no matter how unimportant or non-influential it can be. These actions will pile up over time, and give rise to misunderstandings, anger, persecution, violence, and the death of loved ones, family, ideals, and all that is decent and honorable.

Order

Giving a chance to the thought of finding the time and resources to the endeavor of the cause to find stability and balance, it is the key to which the final step of the puzzle can be solved, and the gateway to peace can be established, unlocked, and understood. Order must be understood from every perspective possible, to prevent the destruction of balance while also maintaining stability.

“Desolation”

By finally unveiling the true intentions of each party in the power game, no man can be hidden from the eye of suspicion; it is no longer a game.

The means to which this can be achieved lies with understanding how bringing honor to the political system via legislation can bring about the sovereign’s legitimate claim to power, and the population’s long-desired peace and its keyhole to prosperity.

Thus, one must recognize the immense advantage to which recognizing these body of powers to government can be: honesty is created and leaves out the possibility of significant amounts of time being scattered to the wind.

The time that can be utilized to hold this government into place and seek to further its reach via restraints. The government has its own balancing act on top of the political intrigue brought about by the three parties; its shift towards absolutism or towards fragility.

Therefore, the balancing act must be kept at a standard leveled out by the law. Its placed recognized and held to a sacred standard. Laws are there to keep us from harm, and thereby gives us security and freedom.

Although, the aforementioned restraints must be placed upon the reigns of government to guarantee that freedom from those who think otherwise.

The government is put into place to separate itself, and thereby its citizens, from entities which seek to benefit itself, and only itself, no matter how desperately it exploits, murders, and steals.

These traits, however, are not foreign but can and always lies within the heart of the state and its people.

Therefore, one must recognize the duty of the government to institute organizations to protect the people from each other, but to also prevent the largest and harmful entity within the system, the government. Each player within this delicate house of cards has to know their role but to also execute their duties, as ignorance will only lead to collapse and the end of the system.

Leave room for mistakes, and more will follow, leading to these to pile upon each other to ultimately ruin the tree. The only true gain which can be seen from such a tragedy is the lesson that follows: the test often comes before the lesson.

Our ancestors have already “learned the hard way”, as the only honorable path from henceforth is to either choose to learn from the lessons of the past, or to leave our predecessors’ sacrifice into the mud.

There is a reason for why the phrase, “for they shall not have died in vain” is so true yet so uneventful, because it is so painstakingly obvious.

However, it leaves a quasi-paradox that can leave its learned unfulfilling of that simple task. To not forget, and to remember why our ancestors fought so hard for their beliefs, ideals, family, and world, to seek that their children and their children’s children should have a better life from partaking of the lessons from the past, and to ace the tests that life should give to them.

It is the best way to pay homage to our ancestors, and to fulfill their requests, to not forget. Otherwise, it is only natural for the corrupt and ignorant to rise and fall into the great deep, to produce this tragedy over and over again until the cycle can be broken and new generations can never forget. To break the wheel, and to build anew is all the present can do.
