Kobe Bryant was born on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia. At a young age, his family moved to Italy so his father could further pursue his basketball career. He was immediately faced with adversity. Initially, he did not have many friends because of his different looks.
Thus, because of the scrutiny, Kobe created the “Mamba Mentality.” His basketball career began right after he finished high school and was chosen for the thirteenth overall draft pick in 1996 by the Charlotte Hornets. Then he was traded to the Lakers and made history.
All the people that Kobe knew personally, Lebron James, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, agree Kobe had a killer mindset; one that would lead him to win 5 championships with the Lakers in the span of the 20 years. His “Mamba Mentality” is something Kobe used to change the world and instill a sense of inspiration in people to work the hardest they can at the things that they love. He was an inspiration to the millions of people that have watched his games. The tenacity that he was able to play with every night on the court was why fans were so attached to him.
Kobe has also inspired people outside of the basketball community. He preached for people to not be afraid of failure, and to face challenges head-on. He strived to give back to society and help others in need. When he was asked about being afraid of failure, he responded:
I don’t mean to sound cavalier when I say that, but never. It’s basketball. I’ve practiced and practiced and played so many times. There’s nothing truly to be afraid of when you think about it … Because I’ve failed before, and I woke up the next morning, and I’m OK. People say bad things about you in the paper on Monday, and then on Wednesday, you’re the greatest thing since sliced bread. I’ve seen that cycle, so why would I be nervous about it happening?

After his professional basketball career, he created a multimillion-dollar company called Granity Studios; which depicted Bryant’s love and passion for writing. Through his company, he created podcasts that were directed to children. He later wrote the Wizenard Series in order to teach children valuable life skills that would stick to them for the rest of their lives.
Unfortunately, on January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash along with one of his daughters (Gianna Bryant). My prayers and condolences are with his family. I wish Kobe and Gianna a peaceful rest. His legacy will live on in our hearts throughout many generations, remembered for his kind heart, and the way he pulled himself to greatness. Thank you, Kobe Bryant, for everything you have done for us, and I hope you bring the Mamba Mentality up to Heaven.
As Kobe would say – “Mamba Out”
