Before I begin, I want to say thank you to Sarah Cardine who is a reporter for the La Cañada Valley Sun Newspaper. A few weeks ago, she published an article about the Outspoken Oppa. It was well written, informative, and accurate to say the least. She commented on the story of creating the website and our three consistent principles. I encourage anyone to read the article for themselves as well as any of Ms. Cardine’s work. Once again, thank you Sarah Cardine for your time and effort in writing the article.
Politics
The story everyone is talking about is the spreading of the Coronavirus. Recently, the Worldwide Health Organization declared the virus to be a global health emergency. According to a recent USA Today report, 40,000 cases have been reported and almost 1000 have tragically died. Every day, the disease is becoming more unprecedented and prevalent in society. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a cure or vaccine for the virus according to the CDC. Travel bans and shutdowns are taken place in various countries to quarantine infected individuals. The Chinese government’s grip on its country will be tested as they rush to mitigate deaths. My condolences to the families who have deceased relatives who were victims of the virus and I wish a full recovery to those infected. On the domestic front, President Trump has been acquitted by the Senate. This was an expected result ever since Nancy Pelosi began the impeachment process in the House. Headlines have taken over the news about Senator Mitt Romeny’s vote to convict Trump on Abuse of Power. Honestly, Trump should not care about Romeny since his vote had virtually no impact on the impeachment. Calling Romeny “Judas” or “A covert spy for the Democrats” is both unnecessary and petty. At a National Prayer Breakfast, Trump celebrated the Senate’s verdict by holding up the headline to the Washington Post. He called the process “bull-sh*t.” This was correctly seen as crass by the media and 2020 candidates. Politicians should avoid cursing in front of a camera because it can be seen as unpresidential and unprofessional. The President needs to focus on the coronavirus impact, climate change, and US-Chinese relationships. Also, the DNC hosted the New Hampshire presidential debate this past Friday. Senator Klobuchar did well in addressing Former mayor Pete Buttiege’s lack of political experience, attacks on frontrunners, and drawing a line for her campaign. Other candidates appeared to be lacking in substance and preparation. For example, Tom Steyer was unnecessarily exclamatory when regarding Trump and Yang just repeated his same talking points about UBI. In reality, this debate will not have much of an effect on the 2020 election considering many voters have already pledged their support to a specific candidate. Also, the New Hampshire Caucus is tomorrow which gives president hopefuls a platform for their candidacy. Given the disaster in Iowa, the DNC has to be more meticulous in their process to make up for their mistakes.
Culture
I want to congratulate the director, cast, and editing team of the movie Parasite. They were nominated for six Oscars and won four making them first foreign film to ever win the Best Picture award. Having a 99 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, a 96 percent Metacritic score, and an 8.6 IMDB rating, they have shocked the world with this spectacular film. I encourage anyone to watch the film in theatres. Despite this good news, many actors and actresses used their Oscar award acceptance speech as a platform for politics. I have never taken the remarks of Hollywood members seriously because they are most likely swayed by the public’s perception and not through self-revelation. Granted, they may be informed on the topics in which they are speaking about, but nobody wants to hear about politics in an award show. Elvis Presley was once asked in a news conference what his position was on the Vietnam War protesters and he said he wants to keep that personal. This mentality should be exhibited by all entertainers today, but the majority believes it is appropriate to talk about politics in the Oscars. Yes, one is entitled to their opinion, but please consider the potential ramifications and consequences when saying an inflammatory remark.
