Remember, let’s be polite; let’s be respectful, but most of all, let’s be outspoken.

Within this section of the website, we will be discussing the politics and current events that recently transpired. We will breakdown the events, discuss our predictions at length, and hope to remain informed.

This is

The Monthly Report.

Before I begin, I want to apologize for not posting as much and for not doing a report in March. Recently, I have been writing for the LA Times HS Insider. Edwin Tieu, Noah Chun, and I all have been contributing in the opinion column of the Insider so we have not been posting as much this month. Articles from us consist of US-China relations, price gouging, and an experience writing for this website. The link to the LA Times HS Insider is here. Also, our media team is working on an interview with JPL scientist Peter Kalmus. Recently, they finished the trailer. The link to the trailer is here. One last thing, contributor @coletrohan began a podcast called La Cañid. I was his first guest and the podcast releases tomorrow.

Politics

Since the last report, I stated that the Coronavirus is taking over all the headlines. It could not be more true now. At the time of this posting, there are close to 3.3 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and around 233,000 deaths according to John Hopkins University. The Outspoken Oppa writing team has published multiple articles about the pandemic. You can find them in the global or Op-ed columns. For me, I have been in quarantine for almost two months now. I have tried to be productive but found it is hard to be considering we do not have an end date. Unfortunately, College Board has pushed the SAT tests back making the August SAT the closest testing date. Also, UC schools have stated they will suspend SAT scores in their admissions process according to the LA Times. This will impact may students applying for college this and next year. This will also further the debate on mandating the SAT/ ACT at all. I do not want to get into foreign politics because I have already expanded my disdain with the debacle between the media and the President.

Culture

Anyone who is bored at home should watch the TV series Suits. It is an amazing show packed with action, drama, and comedy. The nine seasons follow the narrative of a law firm and a handful of main characters. Here is the trailer for the first season.

The trailer does not do the series justice, but again, I encourage anyone to watch it if they are looking for something to do during the lockdown.

Remember, let’s be polite; let’s be respectful, but most of all, let’s be outspoken.
