When I first met Caroline Anderson, I had already interviewed two other school board candidates, in which both seemed kind and gave coherent answers to my interview questions, but Ms. Anderson gave a more personal and unique experience when I interviewed her. At the very beginning of the interview, she welcomed us with this natural exuberance and excitement.
As the film team and I were setting up for the interview, she asked me questions about my aspirations and education. Despite the fact we just met, she was genuinely vested in the progression of my education, asking us what we would change if we could restart high school. The concern in her voice made the conversation seem easier to have as if I was talking to a parent as opposed to a political candidate.
She made the conversation light, almost refreshing during a time of tremendous stress, especially for those applying to colleges. When I interviewed her, she gave methodical and intelligent answers, proving her readiness for the school board position and leader of this community. She proposed rational objectives and formulated a clear vision for the near future of La Canada.
Furthermore, there was a consistent tone of authenticity and compassion in her voice, something the community must have in these drastically trying times. When we ended, she once again expressed this seemingly natural curiosity in how we are doing in such a time filled with anxiety. Simply put, she is an exceptional leader that conveys a sense of maturity and grace in her words and activities.
Remember, let’s be polite; let’s be respectful, but most of all, let’s be outspoken.
