The world has drastically changed in the last decade. The transition from the 1900s to the 2000s has arguably become one of the most drastic changes that have been present in any transition in decades. This is all due to the everlasting impact of increasing technology.
Technology is ingrained as a main prioritization of the continuously changing Earth. Humanity has changed for the better due to technological advancements, as it has brought upon drastic improvements to daily lives.
For instance, today, people can easily alter the temperature of their homes. In contrast, people of the past have had to bear with the heat or scavenge for firewood amid a cold night. However, is it possible that technology can stunt the growth of society?
Mobile devices and computers have been increasingly present from the transition of the 20th to the 21st century. It has provided drastic changes as it has allowed many corporations to thrive off of selling or manufacturing these products.
The users may generically receive a positive impact on their lives, yet it also imposes some consequences. These devices are highly addictive. In a couple of surveys, teachers found that 67% of students were noticed being distracted by their mobile devices.
Additionally, 46% of parents surveyed in the UK also stated they felt as if they were addicted to their mobile devices. This addiction has caused many problems for people as one is completely dependent upon their devices to cope with any situation.
Simply put, these devices stunt the growth of individuals as they consume their time with these devices rather than focusing on much more important things, whether it be academics/work, being active to stay healthy, or family bonding.
Many professions have additionally begun to work alongside technology. Specifically in terms of jobs, can either help one get jobs as well as ruin the chances of it. Sure, the technological age has brought upon many jobs that many people would not have been able to take up, such as customer service through phones, social media managers, app developers, etc.
However, technology has also and will continue to cause a dramatic decline in the number of jobs around the world. A report in 2017 reported by the McKinsey Global Institute analyzed around 800 occupations in 46 countries estimated that between 400 million and 800 million jobs could be lost due to robotic automation by 2030.
This holds especially true in developed countries such as the US as there is greater availability of capital to invest in automation. Jobs that would normally be taken by a human, such as a cashier and clothing manufacturers can now be replaced by automation.
Additionally, companies would rather prefer this automation over human employees as it would mean creating more profit as less money would be spent on workers for better results since automation cannot make mistakes while humans can.
