Last updated on March 6, 2021

On March 3, 2021, The Outspoken Oppa interviewed Victoria Schwartz, who is the founder and president of the La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities Association. The thirty-minute interview was over the phone and showcased the merits of the La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities Association.

Ms. Schwartz is a highly regarded member of her community. Before entering community service, Schwartz was a practicing attorney at a private firm until she stepped back to raise two children. After that, according to the Valley Sun, she “served as director for the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation from 2003 to 2006, chairing the group’s annual Spring Gala, and assisted on several PTA boards, the La Cañada High School Music Parents Assn. board and co-chaired the La Cañada High School 7/8 PTA Home Tour.”

In 2016, she created the non-profit public benefit corporation called the La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities Association, which, according to its website, facilitates “student exchanges with our Sister City in Villanueva de la Cañada, Madrid, Spain.” Since its inception, the association has brought various opportunities for young leaders to increase their knowledge of geopolitics, international diplomacy, differing cultures, and space exploration.

Through the SCI Youth Leadership Summit, International Space Academy, and their Youth Group, the association provides an array of possibilities for high schoolers and adults.

Within the interview, Ms. Shwartz outlines her community service experience before creating the association, her intentions in creating the association, the five-year timeline of the organization’s projects, and what the future of the association looks like.

The interview was conducted by Ethan Kim and edited by Ashley Olson. Ms. Schwartz is speaking on her behalf in an independent production by the Outspoken Oppa. Special thanks to Ms. Schwartz for doing the interview.
