Have you ever listened to music and felt a rush of joyful emotions? Maybe you’ve imagined a visual image while listening to your favorite song. Or, have you ever seen architecture so unique and extraordinary that you felt proud of that specific culture? These emotions are essential when it comes to art. At the same time, it’s important to realize how many different forms of art there are and the different emotions that go with them.
According to Britannica, there is a wide variety of fine arts. Different forms of art fall into the category of tradition and culture, including literature, visual art, dance, music, sculpture, and architecture. All this art is what brings uniqueness to different cultures. Furthermore, Angel Fernandez, an associate professor of art, explains, “Think about the iPhone, the Fort Worth Water Gardens, Call of Duty: Black Ops, floor rugs, royal processions, Gucci’s Spring line, Versace furniture, Ducati motorcycles, Land Rovers, Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, Calvin Klein, Calatrava bridges, sunglasses, military uniforms, Star Wars, Rolling Stone Magazine covers, and the Transformers. Now, remove any element founded in creativity, art, and design, and all that remains are piles of materials that require human imagination and visual thinking. Art forces humans to look beyond that which is necessary to survive and leads people to create for the sake of expression and meaning.”
Others may argue that only specific types of art are better than others (like music, dancing, singing) and that the rest are not as expressive (or don’t bring out emotions). For example, author Kyler Ferrer argues that literature is the best form of art. If we look into our society, it consists of very unique and different individuals. Art can mean many different things and bring out different emotions/memories in people. To some individuals, art such as music, dancing, and singing can mean different things to them rather than architectural and sculptural art.
Thus, art can come in many different forms and have various meanings for each individual. Art is a very important part of culture and traditions. Without art, there would be less uniqueness in our society. The category of art continues to expand today as new forms of art are created with expression and meaning.
