As I walked into the theater, I was filled with excitement and anticipation. The room was overflowing with exhilaration as people were chewing popcorn and wondering what the new movie could be about. Slowly, the light dimmed and purple and blue flashing light filled the screen with action and excitement. A perceived Doctor Strange jumped through the scene as he was getting away with a companion from a large beast. Mixed emotions engrossed the room as a betrayal unfolded on the screen. Is this the new Doctor Strange?

To clarify, Doctor Strange is one of the many marvel characters that the MCU, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, focuses on. The new Doctor Strange movie is a good movie, it’s entertaining, it has a good plot, and it has a good composition overall. These factors are all parts that make up a good movie. The new Dr. Strange movie also incorporates some funny bits and is entertaining, retaining the iconic Marvel style, but is different because it has some horror bits and explores the multiverse, which creates a more enjoyable plot.

All marvel movies in the MCU have some similar qualities. And although this movie strays from the standard Marvel movie criteria with some more horror elements, it still retains the iconic Marvel funny bits as well. The hot dog stand scene with Bruce Campbell is one example of both the iconic Marvel humor and end credit scenes. The movie is also a gateway into the multiverse, and explores that side of the MCU.

We can also see that this new movie is a great one just by looking at the sales of the movie in just 2 weeks! According to Screen Rant, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sold 5 times as many tickets as the first movie. Why would 5 times as many people want to go to a movie if it wasn’t good? Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also sold $42 million since presales opened on April 6, 2022, outselling many other famous MCU titles! These include Captain Marvel, Thor: Ragnarok, and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.

Some may argue that the new Doctor Strange has a bad or confusing plot and that the character development was shallow. Although this may be partially true, this is mostly due to how the new movie references other marvel series and movies such as WandaVision and Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame. If you did not partake in watching these shows before watching Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness then the plot may have been very confusing. Wanda’s sons and villain role, from WandaVision, and a reference to Dr. Strange’s betrayal, in Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame, may have made the storyline for those that did not watch confusing and hard to follow. Furthermore, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie was more of a gateway into phase 4 of the MCU. Phase 4 is described as marvel movies from 2021 – 2023.
