When I step onto the field, butterflies are exploding in my stomach, my heart thumping, and my hands are shaking. I’m on my toes ready to hear the whistle and start the soccer game.
For a variety of reasons, soccer is by far the best sport due to its global popularity and how accessible it is compared to other sports.
First of all, soccer is the most popular sport in the world, even though it may not be called soccer everywhere you do. Each year the World Cup consisted of about 517 million viewers. On the other hand, what people perceive to be a popular sport is baseball, which only received about 25 million viewers in the World Series. The Super Bowl receives about 112 million viewers on average. Football, another very well-known sport is only played in America, therefore not known globally. Soccer attracts more people because it is well known on a global level. And if a sport is popular, that has to at least show something when it comes to how much joy it brings its players and its spectators alike.
On top of that, soccer is ranked as the fourth least expensive sport as, unlike dozens of other sports, all you need is a ball and a space in order to play soccer. For example, baseball requires a bat, ball, bases, and glove. All of these can not only be hard to access, but also expensive. Another example is football: players need to buy a large number of protective gear in order to play competitively. For just one football player the gear on average is about $1,000!
In summary, soccer can be seen as the superior sport not only because of how much fun it is to play, but also objectively in how widely it is enjoyed and how accessible it is.
