Homework has been a big part of school but, do we need it? Does it actually benefit students more than it harms them?
According to the Hong Kong Economic Journal, “over 70 percent of students regarded homework as ‘annoying’ and ‘boring.'” Personally, I have a busy life, and homework has taken a big part of my time.
Homework stresses many kids from elementary to high school and beyond. I believe that we don’t need homework to have a good learning experience at all.
School already takes a lot of kids’ time. A normal school day lasts about 6 hours, not including extracurricular activities such as sports and music. With all the activities, children spend 8 hours of their day learning and working. This is already tiring for small children in 1st grade. Imagine adding lots of extra homework to those 8 hours of work. This can stress and deprive children of sleep, which is very important to their happiness and development.
Overall, homework is completely unnecessary because its harms outweigh the benefits.
