A few years ago, I connected my headphones to my phone to listen to music while taking a test. During this test, I felt more focused and ended up getting a better score. So, does music actually help you?

Music is very important in our society. Not only can it just be entertaining to listen to, but it can also help with stress, focus, and sleep efficiency. If everyone would listen to music to try to help with these things, I believe that everyone would be much better off.

Music can help relieve stress. A study conducted in Russia concluded that if you listen to music for one hour a day, your brain will actually change and you will be more relaxed. This is very important because when you are stressed, you make more memories but have a harder time actually accessing these memories. So, if you listen to music, you will still be able to make these memories but you will also be able to access them with ease.

In another study, participants listened to music while trying to fall asleep. The participants without music fell asleep in about 27 minutes to 69 minutes. The people who did listen to music fell asleep in only 6 minutes to 13 minutes. It has also been proven that playing music before bed can help increase sleep efficiency. This means that you will be more well rested than usual.

Have you ever seen a movie or a tv show and thought that the music in it changed it? Music can make a scene sad or scary. Music can change your mood based on what you are listening to.

You may have heard of the Mozart effect before, which was a study that proved that listening to music will make you more intelligent. But, have you heard of the Blur effect? In this study, kids who listened to the band Blur did the best on tests. This is because today more children like the band Blur than people listening to classical music or no music at all. This means that you should not only listen to music but try to find music that you enjoy the most to best benefit from these effects.
